Silica - a structural additive for the construction materials industry
Silica is one of the mineral additives in the modern construction materials industry. With stable chemical properties and ultra-fine particle structure, silica helps to increase the hardness, long-term durability and water resistance of concrete. This material is widely used in high-quality constructions such as high-strength concrete (HPC), ultra-strength concrete (UHPC), bridge - port structures, tunnels and heavy industrial items.
🧱 1. Silica fume (Fumed Silica)
Funtions:
- Increase compressive strength (can increase 30–50% for concrete).
- Reduce water permeability, increase corrosion resistance.
- Increase sulfate resistance, reduce alkali-silica effect.
- Dense cement structure thanks to superfine particles.
Specifications:
- Very small particles (0.1 μm), extremely large surface area.
- Highly active material.
- Widely used in High-Performance Concrete (HPC), ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), precast concrete, bridge and tunnel construction.
🧱 4. Precipitated Silica
Funtions:
- Increases viscosity and workability of polymer mortar/concrete.
- Improves adhesion in adhesive systems - epoxy - concrete repair.
Features:
- Common in repair materials, coatings, adhesives, rarely used directly in conventional concrete.
